After residing on earth for 99 years, our beloved father, uncle, and friend, Perry Henson has taken up permanent residence in Heaven, his new “Forever Home”!
It’s been said that “What matters is not the dates on your tombstone, but how you spent the dash in between.” His early years of growing up served as a training ground that equipped him with the wisdom and knowledge he would need to fill up his own Dash. He was the son of Jack and Faye Henson and was born in Protem, Missouri on November 2, 1924. When he was a toddler, Jack and Fay loaded their little family into their Model T and drove all the way to Arizona at the roaring speeds of 30-35 mph! Ultimately, the family grew to include an older sister, Wilma, then 3 more after Perry with Erma, Helen & Gene. They lived there for 16 years and returned to Pierce City in Missouri, just before his Senior year where he graduated from high school.
During WWII, he went into the Army where he served in one of the last Mounted Cavalry Brigades in the United States. On January 20, 1951, he married Bethel Cram and later moved to Castle Rock. The small farm he and Bethel lived on for 61 years, became the training ground for the next generation. Roy, Jimmie and Kevin were taught how to love Jesus, work hard, and continue the legacy by teaching and demonstrating the principles they would use the rest of their lives.
Perry worked at Longview Fibre as a Journeyman++ Pipefitter. He retired in 1986 after 33 years.
He was unwavering in his example to his family and to the world of his love for Jesus. He served in his church as deacon and then elder. He was a soft spoken “gentle man” with patience that would put ANYONE to shame…but he was also quick to stand his ground without offense. We all grieve over the loss of loved ones, but the best way we can honor them is to make it a point to apply their examples of “how to do life” into our own lives. Dad has passed his torch to us. It’s our prayer that we can continue his legacy, and be responsible to pass that same torch when the time comes, to the generations that follow.
