Jeffrey William Setters
Jeffrey W. “Bam Bam” Setters
May 1, 1959- July 6, 2024
Jeffrey William Setters, 65, of Longview passed away July 6, 2024 peacefully in his sleep surrounded by loved ones.
Jeff was born May 1, 1959 in Longview, WA to William and Leeta Setters. Jeff graduated from Columbia Adventist
Academy in 1977. Much to his dismay Jeff was never able to join his preferred branch of the military, but he did
honor our veterans any time the opportunity presented itself. He even got to set up and enjoy his flag and pole,
flying our nations colors high, proud and beautifully lit up at night, before is passing. It was a gift from his children
that he cherished dearly.
After graduating Jeff went to work in the woods. He spent 25+ years in the logging business, 11 of which he also
worked as a casual, following in his dads’ footsteps, to become a member of the longshoreman’s union ILWU Local
21. He was later followed, much to his pride, by his son Justin. He often shared with his wife how proud he was of
Justin and his dedication to his family and the ILWUthe local 21.
Jeff was a true pillar of the community volunteering in his youth as an EMT as well as a Firefighter in Castle Rock,
WA. He later dedicated his free time to the local BACA chapter as well as the Patriot Guard. Many may have
thought he was a gruff grumpy old man but the care of veterans and children was very near and dear to his heart.
True to his joking/prankster nature, whether intentionally or not, Jeff married the love of his life Tammy Neuman on
April 1,2016. Many even laughed upon hearing the news and saying this to the effect of “oh you got me!” or “had
me going there for a minute! April 1 really?” They complimented each other beautifully. The Pebbles to his Bam-
Bam the calm to his storm. They brought out the best in each other and encouraged each other to just be themselves
while allowing each other to find who that was again with the love and support only true love can foster. They saw
each other through many ups and downs, sickness, health, tragedy and joy.
When not working or volunteering Jeff could be found spending as much time as possible with his grandkids. Jeff
loved showing up to their school and or sporting events with his other love or…as some might say his other wife his
Harley. Jeff never broke a promise no matter what, even when his health was failing, he never let his family down.
Nothing mattered more to him than his family. He loved the long chats with his kids and grandkids while driving
and would often pretend to hate hugs, even though we all knew he loved them. Jeff truly had the biggest most giving
heart, adopting his daughter at the ripe young age of 31 after being her father already for 2 years he chose to make it
official. He gave freely and in abundance of his time and love to all those who touched his life. Jeff would give the
shirt off his back and more, ride to hell and back if needed to be there for those he cared for. Never once asking for
anything in return, not that he would have accepted if it had been offered either. However the look on his face when
his closest family and friends surprised him for his 60 th birthday with a giant package filled with love is a favorite
story that is often retold over and over. They had all conspired in secret for weeks to bring his daughter and
granddaughter down from Alaska for his party. He truly had no idea they were in the box let alone the state and the
pure joy that was caught on camera that day will be a cherished memory forever.
Those who knew him well would tell you that, more than his volunteer work or his Harley what brought Jeff the
most joy was being able to share his love of camping, hunting and fishing with his grandkids from here to Alaska.
Jeff even got to experience the joy of -20F while fishing with his grandsons, something he had long wanted to do
(and decided rather promptly that maybe it wasn’t for him) and caught some beautiful fish he talked about often. Jeff
loved to laugh and make those around him laugh as well. From jokes, silly songs even helium infused “rants”. It was
not uncommon to see Jeff in public with a smile on his face that was so contagious it spread through those around
him like wildfire!
Jeff has now joined those who preceded him, his Mom Leeta, Dad William and brother Mark Setters as well as his
grandson Damien Shuell surely joking and teaching him to fish with great grandpa and uncle.
Jeff is waiting for the day when he will get to again see his wife Tammy, his son and daughter in law Justin and
Liliana Setters, his daughter and son in law Savanna and Brandon Winsbury, and his youngest son Jared Setters, as
well as his niece, nephew, 3 stepdaughters, 2 stepsons,11 grandchildren and many dear friends and extended family.
