Suddenly and unexpectedly, Charles “Chuck” Clifton Crowell passed away November 14, 2024, at the age of 77 in Vancouver, WA., with family at his side.
Chuck was born to Charles and Daisy (Fansler) Crowell in Longview, WA. on March 23, 1947. He was their first son and their third of six children. He spent his entire childhood in Castle Rock, WA and was part of Castle Rock’s graduating class of 1965. Shortly after graduating, he married Roberta (Lee) Crowell on December 30, 1965, and they would’ve celebrated 59 years of marriage this year. He was drafted into the United States Army and spent a total of six years serving his country. During his service, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for 19 months. He was also a proud, lifetime member of the NRA. During his work years, he worked various jobs including owner/operator of his own semi-truck, worked for the railroad, CED and heavy hauling. However, most of his work years were spent at a local chemical plant called American Cyanamid when he started and named Solvay Interox when he retired in 2009, after 31 years of employment.
During his younger years, Chuck enjoyed playing softball and bowling. Throughout the rest of his life, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, small woodworking at home, caring for his Koi fish in his self-made pond, raising and caring for his chickens and feeding several generations of deer who are well aware that “dad” is gone. He could also be found sitting in his recliner watching just about every sport there is, eating ice cream, cookies, M&M’s or skittles.
He and his wife completed their family with four children: Brenda, Tammy, Teresa and Scott. They lived and raised their family in Kelso, WA. In 1993 Chuck and Roberta built their dream home on 5-acres of property in Kelso, WA., some of which he did with his own, hardworking hands.
He was a loyal husband and a loving father and grandfather. He was a rock-solid provider. He was dependable, rarely missed work and always did what he said he was going to do. He was a bit of a perfectionist and took great pride in that and anything he chose to do. He was a little rough around the edges and could be a bit grumpy, but he had a soft, good heart. He would’ve given the shirt off his back for anyone he loved and cared about. He was from the tough man, boys don’t cry era, so seeing him cry or show vulnerable emotions was a very rare occurrence. Many never saw this side of him, but for those who did, have cherished moments. He was a very hard worker and had little to no tolerance for those who weren’t.
Chuck is survived by his wife Roberta at home and his daughters Tammy Jones and Teresa (Jeff) Jensen. Grandchildren Steven (BreAnn Hollis) Driscoll Jr, Cody (Lindsy) Cook, Brandon Driscoll, Christina (Bryce) Barker, Madison (Shane Miller) Cook, Darius Jones, Thomas Jones and Landon Harris. Great-grandchildren Natalie Holmes, Emma Cook, Jamison Gavino, Kyson Gavino, Remi Hollis, Rhett Cook, Bryn Driscoll-Hollis, Jensen Cook and Lainey Miller, along with several others who have called him grandpa over the years. He is also survived by sisters Patty Alger and Marion (Dale) Sanders, brother-in-law Lowell McKone and sister-in-law Jule Crowell, along with numerous friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Charles and Daisy Crowell, siblings Sandra (Sandy) McKone, Janice Schooler and Robert (Bob) Crowell Sr., numerous aunts and uncles, including a very special pair Robert (Bob) and Mary Crowell, and his infant children Brenda Lynn Crowell and Scott Allen Crowell and a special dog Oliver (Ollie).
Although this isn’t the outcome we wanted or expected, our family would like to thank the amazing staff at SWWMC Cardiovascular ICU in Vancouver, WA. for the great care they provided not only for Chuck, but also for his family in his final moments here on earth.
