Barbara Lynn Rider, age 67, from Castle Rock, WA, passed away on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at Peace Health Medical Center, Longview, WA. Born on April 12th, 1956 in Longview, WA to the late David and Ellen Jean Connell.

She leaves behind her husband, Julius Norris, and daughter, Tara Parker, three step children as well as ten cherished grandchildren and one great grandchild.  They were the apples of her eye, her stories of their escapades and achievements were always shared with gleaming pride and love. Each visit and every moment with them was a treasured chapter in her book of grandparenthood.

Barb was a dedicated admirer of birds, with a particular fondness for hummingbirds, she managed to host a few of them at her residence all year long. Barb took delight in the view of fresh flowers on her table while immersing herself in crossword puzzles from the newspaper, all accompanied by a cup of coffee.  She often listened to audiobooks, loved to watch her “shows” and occasionally sang out of tune with her caregivers.  She immensely enjoyed having her late-night sweet treats before bed.

Despite her own challenges and trials, Barb always placed others’ struggles and stories before her own, embodying a positive spirit that could have chosen bitterness but opted instead for love and strength.  She was a giver, generously showering her loved ones with carefully chosen gifts. She believed in infusing joy, laughter and mischief into every interaction, ensuring that all – friends, family, and even strangers were smiling heartily.

In the gentle fluttering of hummingbird wings, may we always find the subtle reminder to seek joy in every moment.  We love you, we miss you and we carry you with us always.

There will be no service held per Barb’s wishes.  She will be laid to rest at the Whittle Hubbard Cemetery in Castle Rock, WA.
